Hydrological Modelling

Dr Simon Lott of EnviroAg Australia undertook his PhD on the Hydrology of Feedlots.  This 6 yearlong field study culminated in the development of a calibrated and verified model – FSIM - that has been used in the development of various Australian State government guidelines.  The findings have also been used in the National Guidelines for Beef Cattle Feedlots in Australia.

FSIM is the only model in Australia to have its water balance calibrated and verified using field data.  This means that three (3) independent datasets have been used to build the model.  The first dataset is used to develop the algorithms; the second is used to calibrate the parameters in those algorithms and the third dataset is then used to verify the algorithms to ensure they are truly predictive.

EnviroAg Australia delivers a Bureau Services for the use of the Feedlot Simulation Model (FSIM).  To access the bureau service please contact EnviroAg to obtain a user key number.  This will allow you to access the data portal and to upload the data required to drive the simulation model.  A professional will then contact you to check the data.  They will then run the model and deliver you a report of the findings.

You can access the best quality hydrological modelling from less than $1,000 per site.  The modelling can deliver information on holding pond sizing, holding spill frequencies,  pen manure moisture contents for odour modelling, irrigation area performance and many more feedlot design metrics.
